Behind the Scenes: A Day at Kearney's Gardens
Take a peek into our daily routine—from early morning market visits to creating beautiful arrangements.
Sarah Kearney
Floral Designer

Ever wondered what goes into running a flower shop? Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at a typical day at Kearney's Gardens.
6:00 AM — The Flower Market
Our day begins before sunrise at the Dublin Flower Market. This is where the magic begins! We're searching for the freshest seasonal blooms, checking quality, and selecting the best stems for our customers.
Sarah, our founder, has been visiting this market for over 15 years. "You develop relationships with growers," she explains. "They know what I like, and I know I can trust their quality."
8:00 AM — Back at the Studio
With our van loaded with fresh flowers, we return to the studio on Bloom Lane. The first task? Unpacking and conditioning.
Every stem gets attention:
- Trimmed at an angle
- Placed in clean water with flower food
- Stored in our cool room at the perfect temperature
9:30 AM — The Day's Orders
Our team gathers to review the day's orders. Wedding bouquets, corporate arrangements, weekly subscriptions, and walk-in customers—each gets our full attention.
"We start with the most time-sensitive orders," explains Emma, our senior florist. "Wedding bouquets always get priority, followed by corporate clients who need deliveries by a specific time."
11:00 AM — Workshop Prep
On workshop days, this is when we prepare the studio. Each workstation gets:
- Fresh flowers and materials
- Clean tools
- Aprons and name tags
- Refreshments ready
"I love workshop days," says Sarah. "There's such energy in the studio when people are creating."
1:00 PM — Lunch Break
We take turns for lunch, always ensuring someone is available for customers. Our favourite spot? The bench outside the studio when the weather's nice.
2:00 PM — Afternoon Deliveries
Our delivery driver, Michael, heads out with the day's arrangements. We deliver across Dublin and surrounding areas, carefully packaging each bouquet to arrive in perfect condition.
3:00 PM — Walk-in Customers
The afternoon often brings customers popping in for impulse purchases—something to brighten their home, a last-minute gift, or simply a treat for themselves.
"I love helping people choose flowers," says our shop assistant, Lisa. "Especially when they're not sure what they want. We chat about their space, their preferences, and find the perfect match."
5:00 PM — Closing Preparations
As the day winds down, we:
- Clean and tidy the studio
- Check stock levels
- Prep for tomorrow's orders
- Update our social media with the day's creations
6:00 PM — Home Time
Exhausted but satisfied, we lock up and head home. Tomorrow, we'll do it all again—and we wouldn't have it any other way.
